The Sarasota County Clerk and Comptroller serves as a Passport Acceptance Facility, providing Certified Passport Acceptance Agents to assist with the passport application process. Is an appointment required to apply for a passport or have a passport photo taken?

An appointment is not required but is recommended. To schedule your appointment, call 941-861-7400.

The application process takes about 20 minutes per applicant. The Clerk and Comptroller's office begins accepting passports and taking passport photos at 8:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. Consult our Holiday Schedule and Office Closures before visiting our office locations.
Help! I have a life-or-death emergency. What is the fastest way to get my passport?

Life-or-Death Emergencies

Life-or-death emergencies are serious illness, injuries, or deaths in your immediate family that require you to travel outside of the United States within 72 hours (3 business days).

If you have a life-or-death emergency, call the U.S. Passport Agency's 24-hour emergency number (202-647-4000). For complete requirements, review the U.S. Passport Agency's website.

If you have international travel plans in the next two weeks, consider visiting your nearest U.S. Passport Agency location. An appointment is required.
